“Magnolia” bronze edition of 9

I have always been close to nature, growing up in the country and a farm. In my adult life, gardens have been a great source of inspiration, not only as a photographer but now as a sculptor.

In our last house we were lucky to have a very mature magnolia tree which bloomed profusely each year. During windy days often buds would fall onto the lawn just before opening. The surface texture and colours I find quite fascinating and is the inspiration for this bronze.

As I have mentioned before, I use no reference material for my sculptures, relying on the feel of the clay in my hands and my imagination. As an artist I can not compete with the natural beauty of nature and the human body and prefer to interpret in a contemporary style.

The colour work was by Matt at Talos, which is very striking and has received many compliments.
