“Cracked Pumpkin” bronze edition of 12
The inspiration for this piece came from other aspects of my work. I am a big nature lover and gardener. I usually grow squash and pumpkins not only to use in cooking but also for their shape and form which I find very attractive.
I worked the pumpkin up in clay over several days adding texture as the clay started to dry out. A week or so passed and I noticed that some interesting cracks started to appear so I let them develop over the next couple of months. I reworked where the cracks were excessive and smoothed several high points.
This bronze has a lovely enticing ‘glow’ about it and is quite pleasurable in the hand. I like to feel it represents an inner beauty that is achieved in old age.
The bronze illustrated is no 1 of an edition of 12
