“The Winged Man” bronze edition of 9
I have noticed that many sculptors create winged creatures and I can see why. The wings give lots of opportunities to express shapes that carry emotional responses.
I bent 10mm rebar for the the armature welding each piece carefully, knowing that I was going to reveal the edge detail in the final bronze. The clay work came reasonably easily for the wings but I struggled with the chest until I exaggerated the ribbing detail.
This piece has been cast by The Milwyn Foundry in London, with the final patina by Alex Davies, which is a classic Henry Moore verdigris colour and texture.
It shimmers in many lights revealing many facets of detail and textures. I know as an artist its very bad form to be ‘self congratulatory!’ but I absolute love this piece.
